Technical & Scientific Reports

Along with the photographic and other collections, FAST has also amassed a significant number of RAE reports and documents.

The technical reports and memoranda date from the Royal Aircraft Factory days in 1916 right through to the demise of the RAE in the early 1990s. Not all documents are available, of course, but the collection increases on a daily basis.

The majority of our pre-1950 reports – over 25,000 which date back to 1916 – are recorded on 35mm film and represent a particular treasure trove for aviation historians. The paper report collection continues the chronology of the microfilm collection and currently numbers over 4000, with more adding to the list on a regular basis.

Overall and in general these reports trace the history of the research and development at The Royal Aircraft Factory and Establishment from its inception to its demise.  The Collection also holds a virtually complete set of RAF Institute of Aviation Medicine Reports and Memos, and a significant number of Flying Personnel Research Committee (FPRC) documents dating back to 1938.
