Not a lot of information on the social aspects of life in the Royal Aircraft Factory and Establishment in the early days remains. There are two short diaries written by women workers around 1916 and some other reminisces in the RAE Chronicles – documents on the pre-WW1 times and during WW1 up to the formation of the RAE in 1918.

However, in 1948 an Establishment monthly magazine was started – the RAE News – and this carries much of the social and technical life of RAE up to 1992 when it closed down.

The archive includes a complete set of this house magazine published between 1948 and 1991.
