Technical, Architectural & Scale Drawings
Our Archives are the repository for a large number of drawings, on paper, on glass plate negatives and on microfilm.
The paper drawings, back to the Balloon School days of 1907, include drawings of the RAE site through the years – including buildings, major facilities like the Seaplane Tank, low and high speed wind-tunnels, aircraft GAs and components, Air Ministry drawings of equipment from WW2, and much more.
The glass plate drawings are generally GAs of WW1 aircraft, production and experimental, and construction methods.
The NGTE Pyestock drawing archive was filtered by FAST before closure and a large number of paper drawings of the engine research and test facilities were catalogued and stored. In addition a very large number of Pyestock drawings stored on microfiches were rescued. Details of the later Noise Test Facility models and facilities were also catalogued and archived.
Many site plans are from RAE outstations – Lasham, Larkhill, Aberporth, Llanbedr etc . In addition, a very large number of Pyestock drawings stored on microfiches were rescued.
