Farnborough Air Sciences Museum

Scale Model Aircraft

The Museum holds an extensive collection of model aircraft depicting the history of aviation from before WW1 through to the Cold War and beyond.

The models are in general of 1/72 scale and of both production aircraft and the wide range of experimental flight aeroplanes. Whilst the majority of the collection depicts the rise of British Aviation, there are a number of foreign aircraft and a good quality depiction of WW2 German machines.

A small collection of larger scale models is dedicated to the aircraft flown from Farnborough and Bedford for experimental purposes. Included in this model collection are a number of scale aircraft which were used for radar signature research.

To supplement this collection, FAST also holds over 500 boxes of individual model aeroplane plans, pictures and colour schemes.  These were donated by the Guild of Aviation Artists whose artists used them to define the historical detail in their paintings.
